Programme of at least one piece. The full programme should not take more than 15 minutes. Each competitor is responsible for their own accompanist, and no official accompanist is supplied. Four competitors from those competing in competitions 54-59 will be chosen to compete for the Blue Riband. These competitions are held in the one centre following each other, before a panel of adjudicators.

Competitions 54-59 lead to the Blue Riband and a scholarship worth £3,000 from the Peggy and Maldwyn Hughes Fund. The scholarship is open to any person born in Wales or one of whose parents were born in Wales, or any person who has lived or worked in Wales for the three years prior to 31 August 2022, or any person who can speak or write Welsh.
This scholarship was created to promote instrumental music in Wales. This scholarship is held for a year and is to be used to further the winner’s career as a musician.
The scholarship cannot be won more than once, but you can compete more than once to win the prizes. The panel of adjudicators will choose four competitors from competitions 54-59 to compete on the pavilion stage and competitors should perform the same programme.
