A scholarship worth £1500 is awarded in memory of Dewi Bowen by his niece, Elizabeth Bowen to an individual who has been studying or working as an artist for less than 5 years

Dewi Bowen New Artist Scholarship special conditions

The Dewi Bowen New Artist Scholarship worth £1500 is awarded to the most promising artist to enable them to follow a course at a recognized art school or college or attend master classes to further develop a career. Applications are welcome from all mediums, whether fine art or applied art (including the moving image and performance art). Consideration will be given to showing the work presented in Y Lle Celf. In addition, consideration will be given to offering the winner of the scholarship a space to exhibit at Y Lle Celf, Eisteddfod in 2026.

  1. Upload your application on the artist portal: The following information must be submitted in order to successfully complete your application through the Eisteddfod's artists portal before the closing date to include:
    • Portfolio of the work: Applicants are invited to submit up to six JPEG/PNG 300dpi images, or video / performance work. It is important that you present clear images of your work, ensuring that the work is available between 1 April and 16 August 2025. In order to compete, the work must be work completed since 31 August 2023, or a new work specially designed for the Eisteddfod.
    • Information about each piece of work submitted: title, medium, size (or length of time) ect.
    • Artist Statement: An artist statement of up to 300 words must be included regarding the work submitted, i.e. not an artist biography but a statement about the work.
  2. Authenticity: The work presented must be the applicant's authentic work, and must not have been exhibited at any previous National Eisteddfod.
  3. Who can apply? The exhibition is open to artists
    • who have been born in Wales, or
    • who have one of their parents born in Wales, or
    • who speaks the language or can write Welsh, or
    • who have lived or worked in Wales for three years before 31 August of the year of the Eisteddfod.
