Fine Art special conditions | Art and Design
- The exhibition is open to requests from artists
- who have been born in Wales, or
- who have one of their parents born in Wales, or
- who speaks the language or can write Welsh, or
- who have lived or worked in Wales for three years before 31 August of the year of the Eisteddfod.
- How to apply: The following information must be submitted in order to successfully complete your application through the Eisteddfod's registration system before the closing date to include:
- Image(s) of the work: Applicants are invited to submit up to six JPEG/PNG 300dpi images, or video / performance work. It is important that you present clear images of your work, ensuring that the work is available between 1 April and 16 August 2025. In order to compete, the work must be work completed since 31 August 2023, or a new work specially designed for the Eisteddfod.
- Information about each piece of work submitted: title, medium, size (or length of time), date, and price (if for sale).
- Artist Statement: An artist statement of up to 300 words must be included regarding the work submitted, i.e. not an artist biography but a statement about the work.
- Sales: A commission of 40% (including VAT) is charged on any work sold during the week of the Eisteddfod. Therefore, if a work is priced at £1000 the artist will receive £600 if the work is sold.
- Language Poilcy: Any original words in the artwork (including audio and video) must be in Welsh. But words in other languages can be included if they are part of an object that is depicted or incorporated, or are quotations, as long as they are not a significant part of the collection/artwork.
- Copyright: The copyright of the works will be the property of the applicant but the Eisteddfod will have the right to reproduce any work in print or online in order to publish pictures of the exhibition and for the purpose of publicity for the Eisteddfod.
- Authenticity: The work presented must be the applicant's authentic work, and must not have been exhibited at any previous National Eisteddfod.
Dewi Bowen New Artist Scholarship special conditions
The Dewi Bowen New Artist Scholarship worth £1500 is awarded to the most promising artist to enable them to follow a course at a recognized art school or college or attend master classes to further develop a career. Applications are welcome from all mediums, whether fine art or applied art (including the moving image and performance art). Consideration will be given to showing the work presented in Y Lle Celf. In addition, consideration will be given to offering the winner of the scholarship a space to exhibit at Y Lle Celf, Eisteddfod in 2026.

Special conditions of the Norah Dunphy Gold Medal for Architecture | Plaque of Merit
Norah Dunphy Gold Medal: Presented in honor of Norah Dunphy, the first woman in Britain to gain a bachelor's degree in Architecture. The medal commemorates Thomas Alwyn Lloyd, architect and one of the founders of the Urban Planning Institute. The award is given to an architectural project of high design quality and standard that conveys excellence in terms of design and architectural standard and demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability when considering materials, building performance, decarbonisation, and end-of-life recycling
Plaque of Merit: A plaque of merit is presented to a renovation project, or a new project, in Wales that conveys excellence in following the principles of placemaking (placemaking) as recognized by the Charter and Placemaking Guidelines for Wales: (1) People and community, (2) Location, (3) Movement, (4) Mix of uses, (5) Streets and public spaces, (6) Identity. Projects must introduce a successful approach to environmental sustainability in the design approaches when considering location, building performance, decarbonisation, maintenance and end-of-life recycling. Reference must be made to the design methods that contribute to a campaign to present Wales as an innovative place, which supports cohesive communities, cultural wealth and heritage.
- To apply, the project must be:
- built and completed (or nearing completion) in Wales between 1 January 2023 and 1 March 2025
- project led by an architect (Norah Dunphy Gold Medal) or an architect/landscape architect/urban designer (Plaque of Merit)
- received the client's consent in order to deliver the project
- How to apply: The following information must be submitted in order to successfully complete your application through the Eisteddfod's registration system before the closing date to include:
- Information about the project
- Project name
- Name of project architect (or landscape architect/town designer for Plaque of Merit)
- Gross internal area in square metres, and in the case of landscape design projects | mainly urban, 'gross' external area in square metres.
- Contract value | construction cost of the project including construction and furnishing if done | supervision by the architect (excluding land costs and fees)
- Type of agreement (for UK projects), date of planning approval and date of possession of the project
- Name and address of architect's practice | studio
- Project manager contact details | architect, client and contractor
- Contact details for visits by the selectors
- Press contact details (optional)
- Photographer's contact details
- If applicable, you should ensure agreement between all stakeholders on how the project should be credited if they are working in conjunction with another firm or architect
- Project description: 500 words describing the project stating:
- 'Brief' from the client/public project tender information
- The architect/landscape architect/urban designer's response to the brief (for the Norah Dunphy Gold Medal this will be a design statement; for the Merit
- Plaque it should explain how you went about following the Placemaking principles)
- Location, site or relevant restrictions
- Summary of the timetable
- Constraints regarding the budget and the building programme
- Sustainability statement: 200 words summarizing all the ways in which the project is sustainable
- Key consultants: Refer to all key project consultants, e.g. Engineer | Structural Engineers, Engineer | Services Engineers, Architect | Landscape Architects etc., with their contact details. Consultants are recognized in press releases and on award certificates.
- Images: Applicants are required to submit the following: (do not include company logos or text on any images)

Some of the pictures should convey the way the project relates to its context. A mix of wide shots and close-ups summarizing the day-to-day elements of the project. The author of each photograph must be acknowledged.- Location plan (showing the project in context, e.g. 1:1250)
- Site plan (for Norah Dunphy Gold Medal and optionally for Plaque of Merit)
- Ground floor plan (showing main entrance) and typical floor plan (for Norah Dunphy Gold Medal only)

Architecture Scholarship special conditions
The scholarship was established to promote architecture and design in Wales. The £1,500 scholarship is awarded to the most promising candidate to enable them to expand their awareness of creative architecture and strive for excellence in the field of design, to promote their career and develop their studies. The winner of the scholarship is expected to submit a visual essay to be displayed at the subsequent Eisteddfod. Applications from the fields of architecture, landscape or urban design are welcome. The word architecture is interpreted in the widest sense.
- The scholarship will be open to individuals in education, studying Architecture | Landscape Architecture or Urban Design during and up to one year after completing the MA | degree MSc. The candidates will:
- were born in Wales, or
- with one of their parents born in Wales, or
- speaks the language or writes in Welsh, or
- lived or worked in Wales for three years before 31 August of the year of the festival.
- How to apply: You must submit the following information and pay £10 in order to complete your application through the Eisteddfod's registration system before the closing date
- A 300 word statement about yourself and how the prize money will be used to support your studies and career ambition
- A pdf document presenting your work, containing up to 8 pictures together with short explanations of the work.
