Competitors need to submit  a demo or video recording of a set of up to 15 minutes to include between 2 and 4 original songs. The judges will then select 4 bands or artists to go on to the next round and:

  • Record 2 songs in a live set at Clwb Ifor Bach or a location in north Wales with the songs being broadcast on Radio Cymru and on digital platforms leading up to the Eisteddfod
  • Perform a 20 minute live set of original Welsh songs (or without words) on Lwyfan y Maes on the Wednesday of the Eisteddfod before announcing the name of the winning artist/band
  • the winning artist/band to perform on the Maes B stage on the last Saturday night of the Eisteddfod

Brwydr y Bandiau / Battle of the Bands is a partnership between Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru (Maes B) and the BBC. This aim is to discover talented new Welsh contemporary music.

Brwydr y Bandiau / Battle of the Bands is open to bands / artists who compose, produce and perform original contemporary popular music. These contemporary genres include indie, electronic, urban, MOBO, pop, rock, world, contemporary folk and any other new and emerging contemporary musical genres
