The songs of Ail Symudiad - one of the most important bands of the Welsh rock scene – is the theme of the community choir project and concert at next year’s Eisteddfod y Garreg Las
Richard and Wyn Jones were innovative and charismatic figures, and their contribution to the Welsh language through their music still inspires artists and fans. The show on the Pavilion stage is a chance to celebrate Ail Symudiad’s musical legacy through a powerful performance with a community-based choir, celebrating their history, community, and local musical passion.
Chair of the 2026 Eisteddfod Executive Committee, John Davies, said, "It is entirely appropriate that we celebrate Rich and Wyn’s legacy at next year’s National Eisteddfod. This area was so important to both of them, and I believe that creating a show for a community choir of two hundred voices is the perfect way to pay tribute to them both, as they did so much for our culture.
"This idea has come from the community, and as a committee, we’re delighted to support a project that will, undoubtedly, appeal to a local and national audience.”
There are several paid opportunities available within the project, with the fee to be agreed according to experience and scope of the work:
Musical director: responsible for all the musical arrangements for the choir and band. This can be one role or can be shared between two people – one to work on the vocal arrangements and the other on the band and the show itself. You’ll work closely with scriptwriter / playwright and the show director to choose the songs
Scriptwriter / playwright: responsible for creating a story line and drawing up the script. The songs will be central to this show, and a good narrative / story is vital to weave the songs together naturally
Stage director: responsible for the overall vision, staging and technical collaboration (sound / lighting). You’ll need experience of working with a professional and amateur cast together with professional technicians, and will be expected to work closely with the MD, the scriptwriter / playwright and the technical team
Choir conductor/s: an opportunity for a local conductor to create a team with a local accompanist/s to lead the choir. The conductor/s will be responsible for local weekly rehearsals, and will work closely with the artistic team to prepare the choir for the show
