Driven by our mission to change lives and our world for the better, the University of South Wales (USW) is one of Britain’s most exciting and ambitious universities
We change mindsets towards further and higher education, improving individuals’ life chances and creating more prosperous communities. Each year, USW makes a total economic contribution of £1.1 billion and supports 10,600 jobs in the UK.
Partnership and collaboration are in our DNA - we were founded by industry more than 180 years ago. We strive to let the outside in with an industry-led curriculum, real world work experience, and applied research and innovation, co-created with industry to address local and global challenges from energy and health to security and sustainability.
With a distinctive portfolio co-designed with industry, we pride ourselves on producing the healthcare workers, lawyers, teachers, and police officers of tomorrow. Our curriculum is created with our students to ensure they are equipped with the relevant skills, knowledge, and experience to maximise their potential and future opportunities. Working with employers from across the region and beyond we are providing them with the highly skilled workforce they are telling us they need.
Since 2020, with support from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, the University has offered students at all levels the opportunity to study credit-bearing, tailored employability provision through the medium of Welsh. ‘Eich Gyrfa a’r Gymraeg / Your Career in Welsh’ prepares students for a bilingual workplace, and gives students the confidence to use their Welsh language skills when they graduate. The University also offers students the opportunity to study through the medium of Welsh in areas such as Policing, Surveying and Primary Teaching, with a variety of Welsh-medium scholarships available to support their studies.
USW is proud to be Wales’s leading widening participation university, with more than half of our Welsh domicile undergraduate students coming from areas within the bottom two quintiles of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation. We are committed and passionate about addressing social inequalities, supporting and enabling our students to achieve the best life outcomes possible and creating more prosperous communities.
With campuses in Cardiff, Newport and Pontypridd we are truly the University for South Wales. Our campuses act as anchors in the region, benefiting our partners and the local community by providing a range of inclusive study pathways, supporting life-long learning and flexible options for our students, employers and industry partners.
Proud to be deeply rooted in South Wales but with students from more than 100 countries, USW is a university with the power to transform the lives of individuals, businesses and communities locally, nationally, and globally.
