Tonight we find out the winner of this year’s Brwydr y Bandiau project band, as the six finalists battle it out on the Open Air Stage on the Eisteddfod Maes.
After four highly successful regional rounds, in co-operation with gig organisers including Clwb 4 a 6 and the Parrot Club in Carmarthen, tonight is the pinnacle of the project which was launched earlier this year.
The bands appearing this evening are Siân Richards, Jacob Elwy, Glain Rhys, Pyroclastig, Chroma and Henebion. The six have benefited from a period of mentoring with Mei Gwynedd, best known for his role in bands like Sibrydion and Big Leaves.
Last year’s competition was very successful, providing a platform for a number of groups which have played a prominent role in the scene over the past few months. These include Raffdam, Hyll, Cordia, Terfysg and Cadno – bands which have continued to create Welsh language music across Wales.
Over twenty bands competed this year and we wish all of theose appearing on the stage this evening well.
Brwydr y Bandiau is organised by Maes B, C2 BBC Radio Cymru and Mentrau Iaith Cymru.
This evening’s schedule:
16.00 Siân Richards
16.40 Jacob Elwy
17.20 Glain Rhys
18.00 Pyroclastig
18.40 Chroma
19.20 Henebion
Candelas will headline the Open Air Stage this evening at 20.00 following the competition.
