Club music and classical instrumentation come together for an unforgettable evening as the Eisteddfod now legendary night ‘Gig y Pafiliwn’ pays homage to club and pop culture.
Eisteddfod concert producers have put together an incredible dance party that features the Welsh Pop Orchestra under the baton of Band Pres Llareggub leader Owain Roberts, who will accompany legendary Welsh Bands Diffiniad and Eden with party band Lleden as special guests.
Following 2017 and 2018's sold out concerts Gig y Pafiliwn will be back this year and promises to be bigger and better than ever. Hosted by one of the most influential figures in Welsh Music, Radio 6 presenter Huw Stephens, Gig y Pafiliwn has propelled itself to be a regular part of the Welsh live music calendar.
Celebrating the legacy of Diffiniad and Eden and the high octane energy that Tara Bethan’s Lleden brings to the mix combined with jaw dropping stage production this year’s Gig y Pafiliwn promises to be an event not to be missed.
Diffiniad reformed last year especially to perform at the Cardiff National Eisteddfod, their Friday night headline slot at the Outdoor stage on the Friday night proved to be one of the highlights of the Eisteddfod week with an estimated 7,000 in the audience. Originally from the Mold area in north east Wales, Diffiniad were formed when the ‘house’ scene was at its height, with their proximity to clubs such as Cream in Liverpool and the Hacienda in Manchester heavily influencing their musical style.
Eden have also performed the iconic Eisteddfod Friday night slot, performing in front of a huge crowd at the Anglesey Eisteddfod in 2017. They burst onto the Welsh language music scene in the late 90’s bringing a burst of much needed pop to the traditional Welsh language guitar based music scene.
Eisteddfod, Chief Executive Betsan Moses said; “I’m so looking forward to this year’s Gig y Pafiliwn, Classic tracks will re-imagined, expect firm favourites and a few surprises, the soundtrack of a generation will be brought together for one night only.
“This is an amazing project that unites the musical forces of Diffiniad, Eden and Lleden. This common musical ground is as powerful as we have all the colours and textures of an orchestra, mixed with classic bands and a great sound system! This will be truly incredible”.
