The lecture will trace the life of C. H. Dodd from the period of his childhood in Wrecsam (focussing on the influence of home, school, and chapel) to his appointment to the Chairs in the Universities of Manchester and Cambridge. His contribution to the study of the New Testament, especially his important research on the Fourth Gospel will be assessed, as will his notable contribution as Director of the panel responsible for the translation of the New English Bible
