Due to their loud and unwavering encouragement – which inspired the national men's side to reach the last four of Euro 2016 and the finals of the 2022 World Cup – Welsh football fans are now renowned throughout the world. One of the most noticeable features of the ‘Red Wall’s’ support and culture is the strength of its singing and the way in which the members – often led by the Barry Horns – utilise music of all kinds to express their passion. It’s therefore clear that there is a close connection between soccer and popular music and this event will celebrate that, by discussing several Welsh songs that have been written specifically about football, alongside other well-known tunes that have been adopted and adapted by fans and have consequently been turned into ‘terrace tunes’. While a panel of some of the ‘Red Wall’s’ most ardent members – under the chairmanship of the musician and football commentator, Mei Emrys – will consider those songs, Owain Gruffudd Roberts and Band Pres Llareggub will also be on hand, to perform some of them... to ignite the biggest musical football party of the Eisteddfod week!
