Epilog, by Robat Arwyn and Mererid Hopwood, will close the Pavilion stage activities at the Wrexham Eisteddfod 2025, weaving together well-known songs with brand-new ones.
As the title suggests, Epilog is the final word, a last performance – a fleeting moment at a threshold, where saying goodbye to one Eisteddfod whilst also looking forward to the next. Epilog seeks to capture the instant where change and continuity meet, the moment between the "did you have a good week?" and the "see you next year?" A transient moment where the wave catches its breath before it crashes. And this, surely, is 'tradition' – an action that moves from yesterday through today into tomorrow… an act of giving, of passing on, of presenting and trusting.
Some of the voices of previous Eisteddfod competition winners will join voices from one of the local choirs, John’s Boys, to guide us through rhythms that echo the hum of bossa nova, the charm of folk tunes, and the firmness of hymn-tunes, all of which will hopefully relax us. From the midst of unravelling and packing, we will be invited to open the door to our shared friendship. Then, as we place everything safely away, putting the words and notes back on the page, returning the voices to the silent books, putting the awards back in the cupboard, and returning the field to the farm, if the lock now closes behind us, Epilog will remind us that it is also the hour of the stars. And this is where the piece ends, with Ceiriog’s rich suggestion that darkness is another form of light
