Bitw is the solo project of Gruff ab Arwel, formerly of Eitha Tal Ffranco, Y Niwl and anyone else desperate enough to invite him to play in their live band (having made the mistake early on in his career of playing both guitar and keys on stage, he's an utilitarian addition to any line-up as two musicians for the price of one). Originally from Caernarfon, Gruff now still lives in Caernarfon and has been releasing music under the guise of Bitw since 2019 with his debut album 'Bitw', evidently a pretty inward-looking record, and then 'Rehearse' in 2023, which he realised all too late featured no Welsh language songs. Although he will be in his late thirties by the time this goes to print, Gruff is still evolving and in a sense devolving as a musician, and has recently ventured outside of the comfort of his own stately home to record in a real studio for the first time (well, Sain). His new record will be out by Easter 2026 at the latest, depending on when that is, and features a handful of Welsh songs this time, promise.
