Brass Bands Championship I Section 1, 2 I 3, 4
- All bands will use their National Grades and must be registered with the Brass Band Players (BBP).
- A maximum of 25 brass players will be allowed as well as percussionists as required in these competitions
- The competition is organised in accordance with the National Competition Rules (courtesy of the Registry):
- Rule 17 (player who cannot compete)
- Rule 18 (registration)
- Each band must wear a uniform unless permission has been given in advance by the Competition Manager
- Bands from Section 2/3 can compete the Championship / Section 1 and bands from Section 4 can compete in Section 2/3 as long as they also compete in their own section and perform a different programme in both competitions
- Competitors in the Championship / Section 1 will perform a programme of music of their own choice not exceeding 20 minutes, and bands in Section 2/3, 4 and Youth will be allowed 15 minutes. All programmes must include at least three pieces, which can include pieces not generally available to all bands.
- Bands will be punished if they exceed the time limit. Should a competition be a draw after considering penalty points, the prize will be awarded to the band which received the highest number of points from the Adjudicator
- The Adjudicator will sit at the Adjudicator table within the Pavilion
- Temporary transfer - one day only.
- Temporary transfer can not be used for more than five players (including percussionists).
- A player on a temporary transfer can play with up to three bands, their registered band and two other bands. Note: If the player on a transfer’s registered band is not participating in the competition, the player can perform with two bands.
- An application for a temporary transfer must be made on the recognised form, signed by the officers of both bands or by letter to the Competition Manager, and the temporary player must submit his / her registration card on the day of the competition.
- Temporary transfer can be made up to and including the day of the competition.
- An application for a temporary transfer can be made by a player who is eligible to play in the same Section or with bands lower in the National Scale. Bands from Section 4 can transfer up to five players from bands from Section 2/3 or 4.
- A player on temporary transfer cannot play a solo, but can play in a duet, trio or quartet.
- Any band that is not ready to play within five minutes of the time specified in the programme or from the time the previous band leaves the stage can be disciplined
- Discipline and Appeals Disciplinary action can be taken if any of the following occurs:
- Break the rules in any way
- Failure to comply with the competition instructions
- Any action that may affect the competition’s reputation according to the Competition Manager.
- Being eliminated from the competition
- Forfeiting any prizes and / or awards
- Being excluded from receiving an invitation to compete in the future. Anyone with a complaint or who has been disciplined will have the right to appeal.
- Complaints and Objections No objections can be made against any adjudication publicly at the Eisteddfod, but a written complaint can be made to the Organiser within one hour of the final adjudication with the name and address of the complainant. The prize will be suspended until the matter is settled.
Youth Brass Bands
The winning band of this section will be invited to represent Wales at the Championship Section of the following year’s European Youth Brass Band Championships. The 2025 Championships will take place in Stavanger, Norway.
If the winning band has already qualified from the previous year’s EYBBC, the runner-up will also qualify.
- All Youth Brass Bands must be made up of standard British brass band in terms of instrumentation. Bands may play a maximum of 50 players, including percussion.
- Bands participating in the contest may be established youth bands, school bands or county/regional bands.
- Players should be aged 21 years or under at 1st January 2024 (this ensures that all players will be eligible to play in the following year’s EYBBC).
- Bands will perform a programme of music of their own choice not exceeding 15 minutes.
- All programmes must include at least three pieces which may include one piece which featurs a soloist from the band.
