Bandstand in the heart of Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd, surrounded by seasonal flower beds and a lush sunken area for an audience

There are a number of buildings and permanent areas in the park, with some perfectly suited for events and activities during the Eisteddfod. The lovely bandstand in the middle of the park is one of these.

The bandstand was added as a focal point to the park in 1926, and was intended to reflect the Victorian view that leisure activities should include culture and the arts.

The area is surrounded by seasonal flower beds, which makes it a lovely area to relax and enjoy performances.

People come to sit in the sunken formal circular spot, and it’s often used for concerts and is a popular choice for wedding photos.

During the day, various local groups and artists perform on stage, and as night falls, a series of lovely candlelight concerts are held, with ample room for the audience to sit, and reflect a the end of a busy day on the Maes.

These include the hundredth birthday celebration of Cór Meibion Pendyrus, one of the world's most famous male voice choirs, a soiree celebrating the life of composer Morfydd Llwyn Owen who died before her 27th birthday, curated by Gwenno Morgan, presenting four young artists under the age of 27, and a candlelit celebration of queer love through singing, music, dance and poetry to mark a century since E Prosser Rhys won the Eisteddfod Crown.
