Colourful banners against a grey sky on the Maes

The National Eisteddfod is a celebration of Welsh culture and the Welsh language and is held during the first week of August each year.

The festival travels from place to place visiting north and south Wales alternately, attracting up to 170,000 visitors and over 200 stalls.

The festival has developed extensively over the last few years and has grown to be a lively festival covering all aspects of arts and culture in Wales, with the competitive element at the core of everything.

We've also developed our community outreach work, with the project over the two years leading up to the Eisteddfod itself being transformed during recent times.

Our structure

The National Eisteddfod of Wales is registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the Charity Commission (number: 1155539). Our management structure includes the Board of Management (Trustees), the Court, the Council and the Gorsedd.

The Council

The Eisteddfod Council acts as a supervisory and advisory body, and its responsibilities include looking to the future and taking a strategic view of the work and development of the Eisteddfod, the Welsh language and Welsh culture.

The Council meets three times a year on Saturdays in November, April and June or July. The autumn and spring meetings are held digitally - and the summer meeting during the Eisteddfod Proclamation Festival for the following year's event.

Joining the Council

Up to 6 members are elected to the Council annually by members of the Eisteddfod Court. The individuals elected contribute towards the strategic development of the Eisteddfod, the Welsh language and the culture of Wales, and ensure that the voices and aspirations of the members of the Court are fully considered by the Trustees and the Eisteddfod's Executive Team.

Nominations are invited from individuals with relevant skills and experience in a wide range of areas including financial, audit, business, fundraising, legal, cultural, marketing, management, event management, technical and community and social engagement , together with individuals who feel passionately about the work of the Eisteddfod.

If you share our values, ideals and aspirations, and would like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you. We'll promote any opportunities to join the Council on this page.
