The Eisteddfod and Gofalwn Cymru | WeCare Wales have created a partnership to raise awareness and hopefully attract Welsh speakers of all levels to consider a career in the care field.
WeCare Wales will sponsor the day by creating a Caring Day. The aim of WeCare Wales is to raise awareness and understanding about social care and early years, childcare and play which support some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Both sectors play a vital role in maintaining the well-being, independence of people and for children, supporting them to develop and grow.
WeCare Wales staff members will be in the field promoting its free training courses - Introduction to childcare and Introduction to social care - which give adults in Wales a taste of what it's like to work in care.
The influencer Heledd Roberts will join the team on the field to promote careers in the field of social care. The team will also speak to the public to get their views on the importance of the Welsh language within care in Wales.
One who has worked in the field of care for over a quarter of a century through the medium of Welsh is Keneuoe Morgan.
Keneuoe, who is Deputy Manager at Hafod Mawddach Residential Home in Barmouth, came to Bala from Lesotho in 1997 and started working for Gwynedd Council.
She took advantage of the opportunity to learn Welsh at Aberystwyth University, becoming confident in the language in 2000. Keneuoe now works in a care home, supporting people with dementia and complex needs.
Promoting people's rights and focusing on the person and what's important to them is an important part of Keneuoe's role. By communicating with residents in their chosen language, Keneuoe is able to build a relationship with them and support them, which helps them maintain their well-being.
The Caring Day, on August 10, includes a full programme including promoting training courses to announce the winner of the Caring Award in Welsh 2023.
At 12:00 in Societies 1, Social Care Wales will announce the winner of the Caring through Welsh 2023 award.
This is Social Care Wales' annual award which recognises and celebrates people who provide excellent care and support through the medium of Welsh.
This year, five workers from all over Wales have been chosen to reach the shortlist, and the winner was chosen through a public vote, which has received almost 2,300 votes.
Then at 15:00 in the Welsh Government Tent, a panel of experts from the National Welsh Learning Centre, Mudiad Meithrin, the Welsh Language Commissioner's office and Bangor University will join Social Care Wales to discuss the importance of the Welsh language in the field of social care and the early years.
