RAS Art Project Brief: Cosmic Rays

6 April 2017

The Project

The National Eisteddfod of Wales is working with the Royal Astronomical Society.  Over the course fo 5 years scientific facts will be presented in an artistic context with the aim of attracting a new audience to take an interest in the scientific world.  Artists will be briefed by scientists working in the field and will then present an artistic workshop on the theme.  Last year Mei Gwynedd worked with Welsh Second Language students from secondary schools in Abergavenny in order to create songs on the theme of Astronomy.

This year we are keen to facilitate a series of visual art workshops with students from 3 primary schools in the Eisteddfod Maes’ surrounding areas.  This year the theme will be Cosmic Rays.  The Eisteddfod will be held in Bodedern during August 2017.

We are keen to invite 3 artists to lead 2 day sessions during the summer term.

£200 a day as a fee for each artist

£150 per artist towards materials

Closing date for applications: 20/4/2017

Workshop duration:  The sessions need to have happened by the end of June 2017

Exibiting date: The aim is that the work will be displayed on the Eisteddfod Maes

The artists will be responsible for communicating with their desegnated school in order to arrange a convenient time to conduct their sessions.
