The Literary Pavilion – or Y Babell Lên – is probably the most famous building on the Maes after the Pavilion. It’s been part of the Eisteddfod for well over half a century, and has been home to generations of poets and writers keen to make their mark at the Eisteddfod.
There are all types of sessions in Y Babell Lên every year, from lectures and discussions to lighter presentations and sessions reminiscing about literary figures and local famous faces.
It’s possible that Y Babell Lên’s most famous session is the Ymryson, a poetry competition held daily with teams of poets from different parts of the country battling it out in a wide range of competitions. Plenty of fun and laughter as they try to impress the ‘Meuryn’ – the presenter and the person responsible for the scores. The Ymryson is usually so popular that people will start queuing outside the doors before it starts to try and get a good seat, so get there early!
Y Babell Lên transforms into the Cwt Cabaret after dark, becoming one of the Maes’ best loved venues.
