Officials of the Ceredigion National Eisteddfod have vowed to carry on fundraising for the festival – although they’ve reached their £330,000 target with eight months to go!
Speaking at last week’s Executive meeting in Tregaron, Chair, Elin Jones AM said, “I am delighted to announce that we’ve already reached our official Local Fund target. Thank you so much to everyone who’s been involved so far. It’s been fantastic to see so many events and activities held across the whole county bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together.
“We know there are lots of events already in the calendar and many more being planned for the next few months, so we’ve decided to carry on. These events are an excellent way of raising awareness and getting people excited about the festival. We’re keen to widen the Eisteddfod’s appeal across the region, and attract new visitors to join us in Tregaron in August.
“We won’t be giving local areas any new financial targets. Rather, we’ll be encouraging them to carry on with their excellent work for a few more months, and I can guarantee that we’ll be putting any additional funds to good use.
“The extra cash will be used to develop a brand new Pentref Dysgu Cymraeg, promoting learning Welsh on the Maes and to improve the seating and shelters throughout the site. We’ll also be working with key partners to create a showcase for rural west Wales, y Pentref Gwledig.
“We want to inspire visitors. We want the Ceredigion Eisteddfod to be a truly amazing week, which will create lifelong memories. We want our festival to be one of the best on record, and we’re going to carry on organising events and activities, encouraging people to get involved until the very end.
“We’ve had a wonderful year working together locally, and we’ve got another eight months before we throw open the gates in Tregaron. So let’s keep going, raising awareness and getting people involved. It’s our turn to make our mark on Wales’ national festival and to make sure everyone gets a great Ceredigion welcome in August.”
