Eisteddfod Choir

Lloergan

by Fflur Dafydd, Griff Lynch and Lewys Wyn, with Hefin Jones and Rhys Taylor

A new look at the countryside in the moonlight...

Lloergan is Fflur Dafydd, Griff Lynch and Lewys Wyn’s new and original project, combining the arts and science in a new and innovative way.
Inspired by astronomy and the Ceredigion area, this is a multi-media spoken word and musical project, and is the pinnacle of a five year partnership between the National Eisteddfod, Urdd, Welsh Universities and the Royal Astronomical Society, as part of the society’s bicentenary celebrations.
How different is the world in the dead of night?  Who are the people who are linked to the night in the Ceredigion area?  The magical abbey at Strata Florida (Ystrad Fflur), a site which whisks us back to the birth of our national identity, provides the backdrop, and we will explore the area, observing the moon, the stars and the phenomenon of space during the show.
With the story firmly rooted in the Ceredigion countryside, this is the 2020 National Eisteddfod’s choral project, and organisers are keen to attract people from across the county to be part of this exciting opportunity.
The script and story were created by Fflur Dafydd with songs composed by Griff Lynch and Lewys Wyn.  The musical arranger is Rhys Taylor and Hefin Jones is the project’s creative participation designer.

A ‘Come and Sing’ session will be held at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberaeron at 19:30 on Monday 18 November, with a chance to find out more about the project and the show, which will be premiered on the Pavilion stage at the Eisteddfod in August next year.
It’s also an opportunity to hear some of the songs and the musical style flowing throughout the work.

You don’t have to be a member of a choir to join in – there’s a warm welcome for everyone who enjoys singing.  There’s room for 250 in the choir this year, so we are encouraging people to register below beforehand, or on the night in Aberaeron.
You can also contact the office on 0845 4090 400 to register for the choir.
