Have you ever heard of the Tregaron Elephant?
Local people know some - but not all – its history… And we think it’s time to find out and tell everyone the story of the Tregaron Elephant!
But what is the story? What was its name? And what happened to it? Did the elephant like Tregaron? Nobody really knows. We’d like you to help us to create the rest of the story.
So, if you and your family are full of ideas and stories, Elgan Rhys and Osian Meilir need your help! They’re working on a brand new project, and want to fill all the gaps by taking the elephant’s story, developing it and creating an original show with and for the whole family for next year’s National Eisteddfod in Ceredigion.
Elgan said, “The story of the Tregaron Elephant is an important part of the area’s history, and is a great basis for a show to appeal to all the family. We're really looking forward to hearing imaginative ideas about the elephant to help us develop the show. I believe everyone has the ability to be creative, so kids (and adults!) bring your amazing and wonderful ideas to us. We can’t wait to meet you and find out what you think happened to the elephant.”
Meilir added, "As I was raised in Ceredigion, I've always known the story of the Tregaron Elephant, and it’s fantastic to have the chance to create a story and show around the legend. The fact that there’s no Eisteddfod this year has given us the chance to collect stories and ideas in a different way, and put the stamp of local families and people across Wales on the show.”
If your family would like to be part of the project, get in touch! Visit our website, www.eisteddfod.wales/amgen-eliffant for details on how to take part in a special Zoom session to share ideas. You can also download a story sheet from the website and fill in the gaps in the story with your ideas and return it to us. Who knows, maybe your idea will be featured in next year’s show!
We are grateful to the Arts Council of Wales for grant support to deliver this project.
