Were you inspired to put pen to paper and compose a song by this year’s Cân i Gymru competition?
If so, don’t miss the opportunity to compete for the Sbardun Trophy at the Ceredigion National Eisteddfod.
The competition celebrates Alun ‘Sbardun’ Huws’ contribution to the Welsh language music and literature world, as one of our most notable composers. The winner will receive a beautiful Trophy by artist Carwyn Evans, to be kept for a year and £500, for the best original song in an acoustic style.
Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Betsan Moses, said, “Over the past few years, this competition has grasped the imagination of some of Wales’ best performers and composers. We are pleased to offer a chance for composers to create new and original songs as part of our competitions syllabus, and encourage anyone interested in entering to do so within the next few weeks.
“Sbardun’s contribution to the scene and Wales was immense, and it’s great that we can celebrate this again this year, and we’re grateful to Gwenno and Sbardun’s friends for their continuing support.
The closing date is 1 April, and the song should be presented on a CD or MP3. Entry forms are available in the list of competitions or online, https://eisteddfod.wales/compete/competition-syllabus. This year’s adjudicators are Tecwyn Ifan and Siân James.
The Ceredigion National Eisteddfod is held at Tregaron from 1-8 August. For more information go online.
