The National Eisteddfod and Cymdeithas Eisteddfodau Cymru (the society which supports local eisteddfodau in Wales) are working together to provide training for amateur soloists over the age of 25 here in Wales, with the support and assistance of Tŷ Cerdd.
This new scheme, called Ffatri Llais, will offer training to 30 amateur singers in vocal workshops (3 sessions with 10 soloists in each). Each workshop or masterclass will last a day, and will include certain elements of solo and group work. Leading the workshops will be Sian Meinir, who is herself an experienced soloist and adjudicator. Sian will be joined by one of Wales’ most prominent accompanists, Eirian Owen.
The workshops will be held on the following dates, at locations to be confirmed:
The workshops will offer guidance to each soloist within a group of singers, in a relaxed and positive environment. It will be an opportunity to develop performing skills, which will focus on bringing songs to life while achieving the highest possible level, thus achieving a more polished vocal performance.
There are many excellent amateur singers over the age of 25 here in Wales, but they are not offered or provided with the experience and training as is offered in workshops such as these.
The aim of the workshops is to guide these singers and help them to develop the confidence to compete in eisteddfodau, on different levels, and perform in concerts across Wales. It will present an opportunity to promote the work of Welsh composers, as well as providing support to singers from all over Wales, while creating a musical legacy for this scheme in the future.
Working in partnership on a scheme such as this is a positive thing, and the hope is that everyone involved, as well as the singers themselves will benefit from this exciting project.
The workshops will be open to the public at certain periods. Times and locations to be confirmed
Places for the workshops are limited. If you are interested, contact Shân Crofft, Development Officer for Cymdeithas Eisteddfodau Cymru, firstname.lastname@example.org or an application form can be downloaded from the website www.steddfota.org.
