'Go Bonkers for Bunting' workshop to prepare for the Eisteddfod

1 July 2017

Do you enjoy crafts, creating and handicrafts?  Would you like to create some colour for Anglesey before the Eisteddfod’s visit?

If so, why not join the Eisteddfod and Menter Iaith Môn in a workshop to prepare colourful flags to welcome the festival to the area in a few weeks’ time?

There’s a warm welcome for people of all ages to join us from 13:30 – 19:30 on Tuesday 18 July at the Bro Alaw Centre, Bodedern.  We’ll be creating bunting which can be displayed in homes, businesses – or even in the caravan – to show the welcome for the Eisteddfod across the island.

Gwenllïan Carr from the National Eisteddfod said, “We know our visitors love seeing the welcome in different areas, and flags and colourful posters are an easy way to show this.  This is the first time we’ve organised an event like this to encourage the community to come together to create flags and we hope it’ll be a success.

“The WI, Merched y Wawr and Cymdeithas Brodwaith Cymru have already shown their support for the idea, and I hope members of our local committees across the area will also join us to create bunting.”

Helen Williams from Menter Iaith Môn added, “We hope people will come from all over the island to take part in this event.  With only a few weeks to go until the Eisteddfod, we’re keen that everyone sees the welcome for the Eisteddfod here in Anglesey.

“But there are other reasons to get involved in events like these, as they’re a chance for people to get together to socialise through the medium of Welsh.  It’s important we do our best to ensure that there are a wide range of activities held in our communities which appeal to people of all ages and give people the chance to use Welsh at grassroots level.

“We are very much looking forward to this event, and are delighted to be working with the great team at Tyddyn Môn, not only to collect material but also on the day itself, and we thank them for their support.”

If you have any material to offer for the project, get in touch by ringing 01248 725 700 (Menter Iaith Môn) or gwyb@eisteddfod.org.uk (Eisteddfod).  You can also get in touch through the Eisteddfod website, www.eisteddfod.wales/posters-and-flags-2017.
