Details of the choral competitions, entry form and terms and conditions.

27. Entertainment Programme

Choir of no fewer than 20 members.  Competitors are encouraged to perform a varied programme of their own choice of music from different genres for up to 12 minutes, to include three of the following elements: pop, musical, glee, religious, jazz, gospel, barbershop, rock etc.

Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in another category during the Eisteddfod.


This competition will be held on Sunday 6 August 2017

Prizes:

1. Y Cymro Cup to be held for a year and £750 (Ymddiriedolaeth James Pantyfedwen)
2. £500 (£300 Contractwyr PAR, Ynys Môn; £100 Rhodd er cof am Lewis R Jones, Awelfryn, Rhostrehwfa, Llangefni gan Beryl a Vaughan; £100 Parti Meibion Bara Brith)
3. £300 (Wyn a Julia Morgan, Llangefni)

The Ann Dwynant Medal will be presented to the conductor of the winning choir, to be held for a year

 

28. Mixed Choir with no fewer than 20 members

Own choice, up to 12 minutes including an unaccompanied piece and a piece by a Welsh composer.  (The two elements can be combined to include an unaccompanied piece by a Welsh composer).

Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in another category during the Eisteddfod,

This competition is held on Friday 11 August 2017.

Prizes:

1. Tredegar Workers’ Institute Cup to be held for a year and £750 (Côr Meibion Y Traeth)
2. £500 (£250 Idris Alan a Vai Jones, Llandegfan; £250 Ieuan Elfryn ac Alwena Jones, Caergybi)
3. £300 (Clwb Rotari Llangefni)

The Morfydd Vaughan Evans Memorial Medal will be presented to the conductor of the winning choir.

29. Male Voice Choir with no fewer than 20 members

Own choice, up to 12 minutes including an unaccompanied piece and a piece by a Welsh composer.  (The two elements can be combined to include an unaccompanied piece by a Welsh composer).

Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in another category during the Eisteddfod,

This competition will be held on Saturday 12 August 2017.

Prizes:

1. Welsh Association of Male Choirs Cup to be held for a year and £750 (Ymddiriedolaeth James Pantyfedwen)

2. £500 (Rhoddedig gan Gôr Meibion y Foel, Llannerch-y-Medd, Ynys Môn)
3. £300 (Ann, Alwyn ac Arwel i gofio am eu rhieni, Hughie ac Annie Humphreys, Bodffordd)

The Ivor E Sims Memorial Medal will be presented to the conductor of the winning choir.

30. Womens’ Choir with no fewer than 20 members

Own choice, up to 12 minutes including an unaccompanied piece and a piece by a Welsh composer.  (The two elements can be combined to include an unaccompanied piece by a Welsh composer).

Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in another category during the Eisteddfod,

This competition will be held on Thursday 10 August 2017.

Prizes:

1. Charles Dawe Cup to be held for a year and £750 (Ymddiriedolaeth James Pantyfedwen)
2. £500 (£300 Undeb Amaethwyr Cymru Ynys Môn; £200 Gladys, Iwan ac Elfyn Pritchard, Caergybi)
3. £300 (Leon ac Eirian Gibson, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth)

The Merched Hafren – Jayne Davies Medal will be presented to the conductor of the winning choir.

31. Pensioners’ Choir for those over 60 with no fewer than 20 members

Own choice, up to 12 minutes including an unaccompanied piece and a piece by a Welsh composer.  (The two elements can be combined to include an unaccompanied piece by a Welsh composer).

Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in another category during the Eisteddfod,

This competition will be held on Tuesday 8 August 2017.

Prizes:

1. OR Owen (Owen Gele) Cup to be held for a year and £750 (Ymddiriedolaeth James Pantyfedwen)
2. £500 (Côr Meibion Caergybi)
3. £300 (Hywel a Susan Williams, Llanrug)

The Hilda Morgan Memorial Medal to be held for a year will be presented to the conductor of the winning choir.

32 Youth Choir for those under 25 with no fewer than 20 members

Own choice, up to 12 minutes including an unaccompanied piece and a piece by a Welsh composer.  (The two elements can be combined to include an unaccompanied piece by a Welsh composer).

Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in another category during the Eisteddfod.

This competition will be held on Wednesday / Wednesday evening 9 August 2017.

Prizes:

1. Daily Post Cup to be held for a year and £750
2. £500
3. £300
(£1,550 Eisteddfod Gadeiriol Bodffordd)

The Twm Dwynant Memorial Medal to be held for a year will be presented to the conductor of the winning choir.

* 33. Best Welsh Song

The Welsh Fusilliers’ Cup to be held for a year and £250 (Eddie a Kathleen Owen, Gorad, Y Fali), will be awarded to a choir in the choral section for the best performance of a piece by a Welsh composer.

 

34. Festival Choir

The adjudication panel will choose one of the winning choirs to receive a prize of £1,000, donated by Principality Building Society, the Welsh Guards Cup to be held for a year, and a workshop with an international conductor to be held at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff. 

The conductor of the winning choir will receive a Baton, donated by Gillian Evans, in memory of her godfather, Noel Davies.

 

Cymdeithas Eisteddfodau Cymru
 

(200) Eisteddfodau Cymru Choral Competition

Any combination of voices with no fewer than 20 members, to present two contrasting pieces to take no more than 8 minutes, and to include a piece by a Welsh composer.

Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in another category during the Eisteddfod.

Entry to this competition is permitted after competing in two local eisteddfodau between May 2015 and May 2017.

The local eisteddfodau must be mentioned when registering for this competition.

This competition will be held on Saturday 5 August.

Prizes:

1. Miss Menai Williams and Mrs Nesta Davies Cup to be held for a year and £500

2. £300

3. £200

(£1,000 Gwobr Goffa Catherine Lloyd Morgan, gynt o Langors Fach, Ffair Rhos)
The Gwilym E Humphreys [National Eisteddfod Fellow] Memorial Medal will be presented to the conductor of the winning choir.

(201) Vocal Ensemble 10-26 years old (3-6 in number)

Own choice with or without accompaniment.  Welsh words.

No more than 4 minutes to perform.  Copies must be made available for adjudicators.

Entry to this competition is permitted after competing in two local eisteddfodau between May 2015 and May 2017.

Prizes:

1. £150 (Rhoddedig gan Arthur Lloyd Owen er cof am ei wraig Wendy [Alawes y Wyddfa])
2. £100 (Teulu Taleilian, Talwrn)
3. £50 (Capel Gosen, Llangwyllog)

 

Eisteddfodau Cymru Scholarship
The Eisteddfodau Cymru Scholarship enables the winner to receive further training in performing on an eisteddfod stage. 

The 2017 scholarship sponsors are John Elfed and Sheila Jones, to remember the happy days when living in Anglesey. 

The scholarship cannot be won more than once.  If the Eisteddfodau Cymru competition includes more than one competitor, the scholarship will be shared between them.
