With less than two months to go before Christmas, the Menai Bridge Appeal Committee has started its celebrations early by inviting everyone to join members for a special performance of Handel’s Messiah at the town’s Capel Mawr.
The message is clear – ‘Come and Sing the Messiah’, and there’s a warm welcome for everyone to join the singing or to sit back and enjoy listening to the performance on 20 November at 19.00. The aim is to create a large chorus of enthusiastic singers to perform the world’s most famous Oratorio, and it’s all part of the town’s activities to raise money for the National Eisteddfod in Anglesey next year.
The soloists are Vicky Hughes, Iona Stephen Williams, Trystan Lewis and Huw Ynyr, with members of Cantorion Menai leading the choir, and organisers hope to attract singers from all over the island and beyond to join in. You’ll need to bring your own score on the night.
Menai Bridge Appeal Committee Secretary, Huw Edward Jones, says, “The aim is to organise something which will bring people together for an enjoyable evening. The Messiah is such an iconic work and is popular with singers of all ages, so we decided locally to give everyone a chance to join in and be part of a big choir.
“It’s also part of our fundraising events for next year’s Eisteddfod. We’ve been very busy here in Menai Bridge for over a year organising events and raising money. And this evening is also a chance for us to thank everyone for all the organising and for coming to so many events over the past few months.
“We’ve organised all kinds of activities, from a poetry evening to wine tasting, and this concert is a chance to celebrate Christmas early in the town. I very much hope that the island’s sopranos, altos, tenors and basses flock to Capel Mawr on 20 November. There’ll be a warm welcome for everyone.”
Tickets are £8 each and are available from Awen Menai, Menai Bridge or by ringing Huw Edward Jones on 07815 515 930.
