I’r Byw / To The Quick is a new body of 3D artwork exploring the themes in the 2017 National Eisteddfod Bardic Chair. The work will tour galleries throughout Wales in 2018.
There are two meanings to I’r Byw / To The Quick – how our experiences touch us emotionally, and also moving our focus from just remembering the past towards the living – towards today and tomorrow.
To express these themes new pieces of furniture will be handcrafted by Rhodri – everyday objects familiar to everyone – as clean canvasses to be transformed, possibly in a destructive way, by social groups to reflect their life experiences.
A co-production with 8 galleries and venues – The National Eisteddfod of Wales, Galeri Caernarfon, Maker’s Guild in Wales, MOMA Machynlleth, Oriel Môn, Saint Fagan’s, Snowdonia National Park and Storiel Bangor with funding support by Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government and The National Lottery.
The project started at the Ynys Môn National Eisteddfod 2017, with an action-art Workshop in Y Lle Celf led by the renowned artist Christine Mills, with Rhodri Owen maker of the Bardic Chair in support.
