The National Eisteddfod’s site (y Maes), parking, caravan and camping site will be adjacent to each other either side of the entrance and road leading to Bodowyr Caravan and Camping Park.
Building of the site started mid June so as to be ready for concert rehearsals etc. the week prior to the festival itself. The site should all be cleared by the end of September. All construction traffic enter and leave from a new temporary entrance with a security cabin to ensure that only official traffic is allowed on site.
During the construction phase, hours of work are generally 0700 – 1900 Monday to Friday though the last two weekends before the event will see more activity.
We have worked closely with Isle of Angelsey County Council and the emergency services on the development of a traffic management plan and our aim is to ensure that traffic flows as freely as possible throughout the period. On the advice of the relevant agencies this will include a one way system which will be in operation from 0000 on 3 August to 2359 on 13 August (plan below). This means that traffic will not be allowed to travel directly into Bodedern from junction 4 of the A55 – we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
The opening hours of the Eisteddfod week itself will be 0830 till 2100 with the licence permitting events until 2300. A number of prelims will be held in the village during the week at Bodedern Parish Church, Saron Chapel and the Memorial Hall (free admission).
Maes B, the Eisteddfod’s fringe music and camping site will be located on the outskirts of the village near the VOSA testing station. Bands will play for the final four nights (from the Wednesday) in a circus big top. Hours here will be later though not past 0200.
All the Eisteddfod’s sites will have security personnel present and will be lit overnight.
As a pre-requisite of the event licence we will have a noise management plan in place to minimise any effect on local residents e.g. the PA system will be set up so as to direct sound away from the nearest dwellings, silent generators etc.
A litter picking team will be on site from before the event till all the main structures are taken down, and all the waste will be carried away to be recycled where possible.
We will endeavour to ensure that all works carried out on site are done with consideration to local residents and the environment. If however you have concerns or issues about anything that we are doing please do not hesitate to contact us by calling 0845 40 90 400 where your call will be dealt with by an Eisteddfod member of staff.
