At last, the year of the Anglesey National Eisteddfod has arrived, and choirs, groups, bands and individual competitors are ready to start preparing for the months ahead.
There may be almost seven months to go before the festival itself, but the closing date for stage competitors is 1 May.
And it’s easier than ever to register to compete, with the Eisteddfod’s online registration system. This is the second time organisers have used this system to attract competitors to be part of the Eisteddfod.
The system was a great success last year in Monmouthshire, with 80% of stage competitors choosing to register online. It’s easy to browse the competitions and pay online, without having to worry about finding an entry form, an envelope and stamp.
This means that would-be competitors can get involved and register for the festival with a click of a button and from the comfort of their own home – or even when they’re on the go - using the Eisteddfod’s responsive website, which can be viewed on a tablet and smartphone as well as from the traditional desktop.
The new system is only for stage competitions. Those taking part in the composition competitions still need to compete in the usual way. The closing date for these competitions is 1 April.
Eisteddfod Organiser, Elen Elis, said, “We’re delighted to announce that the online registration is available again this year for stage competitions. We were very happy with the response last year, and hope that more and more people will choose to use the online registration every year.
“We also know that some people prefer to compete in the traditional way, sending us their entry forms through the post, and that’s absolutely fine. We want people to choose how to get in touch and register to compete. Our aim is to have lots of competitors at the Eisteddfod in Anglesey, and I’m sure as people realise we have an online registration system, we’ll see a definite switch from the traditional paper entry form to online registration over the next few years.”
