Once again this year, Maes B and Radio Cymru have joined forces to launch one of the highlights of the Welsh Rock Scene – Brwydr y Bandiau (Battle of the Bands), with the final held on the Eisteddfod’s open air stage in August.
Its aim is to attract young and new bands to the Welsh Rock Scene, in the hope that they’ll enjoy the experience and continue to perform and compose in Welsh
2016 winners, Chroma, beat almost twenty bands to win the prize, and they’ve been very busy since the competition, gigging and recording, recently releasing their debut single, ‘Claddu 2016’.
The closing date is Friday 3 February, with a series of semi final rounds held around Wales in the spring, culminating in the final at the Anglesey National Eisteddfod on 9 August.
The winning band will be invited to perform a set in Maes B, and record a session for Radio Cymru. They will also be filmed for the Ochr 1 programme on S4C and appear in Welsh magazine, Y Selar. The winner will also receive a prize of £1,000, with an additional £100 available for the best musician.
All those reaching the final will also take part in a mentoring scheme organised by Radio Cymru, offering help and support to the young performers.
